Doing International Business - requires intercultural knowledge and skills

Doing international business requires new knowledge and skills

If you are running a successful business, you already know about product-market combinations, targeted marketing, providing consistent customer value, etc. And guess what? Those are the same concepts being used in every country from Japan to Jamaica. But this everyday business knowledge is NOT the key to getting and keeping international clients. When doing international business, what got you here, won't get you there.

Getting that ‘Yes’ from foreign clients requires intercultural business skills. You may have heard it before: “You can buy in any language, but you can only sell in the language of your client.” This saying is as true today as it ever was, and doesn’t only mean literally ‘language’: speaking and writing. It also means ways of doing business: etiquette, values, concepts of time, power and authority, what is appropriate in a given situation, etc. Your professional communication skills and techniques must take these differences into account in order to succeed.

I want to share with you what I have taught companies like IKEA, Nike and Starbucks at a fraction of the price, hopefully before you make the all-too-common mistakes that lead to big losses. There is a lot of value out there, out beyond your borders. Learn the same things these multinationals (and many more) have learned from me in order to create that value for yourself and your clients.

Intercultural business skills are not a series of memory tests about the customs of different countries (how to shake hands, etc.). Nor are they simplistic lessons on respect and good manners. Instead, intercultural business skills involve tried and tested methods of building professional relationships with those who interpret all things work-related through a cultural lens that is different to yours. My models and frameworks allow you to do business anywhere, with anybody - successfully.

Gaining these skills is up to you. You must take the initiative, learn the skills, and put into action what you learn. However, you don’t have to do it alone. Whether you’re new to the idea of international business, or you want to move beyond past failures, I would love to show you how to make your business thrive globally.

This is why I am offering you a free 30-minute discovery session over Skype, where we will find out exactly how your business can attract, and keep, international clients. Or if you are already getting inquiries from abroad, how to build on those ones and twos into a stream of constant, global business.
